RMD in year of death?

L1: RMD in year of death?I have a client who died in June, 2004, with an IRA from which he had been taking RMD’s for the past few years. He had not yet taken his RMD for 2004. Is he required to take the RMD for the year of death? If so, since the withdrawal would be after date of death, can an election be made to include the income on his personal tax return (IRD)?Do we have the option of including the RMD on the estate’s Form 1041 for theyear of death?2004-12-15 11:13, By: Larry, IP: [64.123.57.19]

While waiting for the CPAresponsethat Gfw referred too, may I suggest that you go to www.irs.gov and review the appropriate section of IRS Pub 590 for Death Distributions. There are some changes that address when final elections must be made that apply to your client’s situation. But I agree that your most pressing item is the 2004 RMD which must be made by 12-31-2004.
