L1: finding a tax advisor with 72t rule knowledgeI live in Baltimore Md (zip code 21236 area) I have talked with 5 different tax advisors and they know very very little or nothing about 72t’s. It’s possible that Bill Stecker, better known as TheBadger in these parts, may be able to work with you though he’s in the Denver area. He wrote the book about a practical guide to 72(t) which is available through this site and I highly recommend it since self-education is a big part of having a successful program. Also, if you will spend some time touring this site, reading the articles and FAQs and working with the calculators, you’ll help yourself too soon know more about the subject than most CPAs.
The more you know the better the experience, and it’s not really that hard.

I sent off my extension request earlier todayand now I’m getting ready to head home for some sleep.

L2: finding a tax advisor with 72t rule knowledgeMy wifesfinancial advisor recommended her to take a 72T distribution for five years (she was 41 then, recent widow). the five years ended about 6months ago. She was looking at discontinuing the distribution to try and leave the money in the annuity.
Her advisor recently admitted to her on the phone that she was wrong back then and informed her of the “longer of five payment years (from the date of the first distribution) or until age 59-1/2.”
