72-t partial transfer of IRA – prorating distribut

L1: 72-t partial transfer of IRA – prorating distributCan an IRA with established SEPP withdrawals be split into separate IRA’s if the SEPP distribution remains constant from one or both IRA’s ?
example: IRA of $200,000 with monthly SEPP distribution of $900is divided into two IRA’s of $100,000 with monthly SEPP distributions of $450 each.
Thanks!2004-07-12 11:13, By: Jim, IP: [66.162.13.123]

L2: 72-t partial transfer of IRA – prorating distributShort answer is YES. Further, the distributions need not correspond to how the IRA was split.

L2: 72-t partial transfer of IRA – prorating distributTo take this a step further, could you split the IRA, as in the example, and take the total $900 from only one? Such as an account that would deplete by 59 1/2? And would that second IRA be totally off limits?

L2: 72-t partial transfer of IRA – prorating distributIf two IRA accounts are used to determine the amount of the payment, then both IRA accounts are part of the SEPP.
Which account you take the funds from is immaterial as long as you take the required payment each year.2004-08-25 16:52, By: Gfw, IP: [172.16.1.71]
