5-Year Treasury Trend

L1: 5-Year Treasury Trend
No one knows for sure exactly, but may suspect that a good index to watch is the 5-Year Treasury. If you look at the bottom of our interest rate page, you’ll see recent declines in the rates – if you are thinking about starting a SEPP in the ext few months, check out our interest rate page from the left menu or by following the link -> http://72t.net/ED_Rates.aspx2003-10-09 17:37, By: Gfw, IP: [127.0.0.1]

L2: 5-Year Treasury TrendHi GFW,
Over the last 3 months the federal mid-term rate has risen and the 5 year treasury rate has declined.
I do not understand what drives the treasury rates in either direction but my question is “what will the 5 year treasury rate tell me if I watch it?”
Thanks,

L2: 5-Year Treasury TrendThe general ups and downs of the published mid-term rates tend to follow the yield curve of the 5-year treasury. My guess from looking at the 5-year rates and the decline since 09/01 (dates at bottom of chart) that the next set of mid-term rates will decrease from their current levels. 2003-10-10 08:27, By: Gfw, IP: [127.0.0.1]
