72t from split of 401k and IRA

L1: 72t from split of 401k and IRACurrently I have all my money at works 401K. After retirement can I use the total of the 401k, move half to an IRA and leave half at the 401k. Use the 72t calculation on thetotal amounts of the 2 and only take the 72t withdrawals from the 401k side and let the IRA side grow till age 59 1/2? Life is so complicated! Thanks, Rick2003-03-02 06:40, By: bonusmon, IP: [127.0.0.1]
L2: 72t from split of 401k and IRAHello Rick:
Short answer — YES; however, document it carefully. Further, I presume you are still employed. If you are 55 or close to it, you an skip all the SEPP math & rigidity of distributions and instead use the “separation of service” exception & take whatever you want whenever you want directly from your 401(k) account.
