401k Rollover

L1: 401k RolloverI will be leaving my current job in June and will be rolling my 401k over to an IRA. Can I roll the 401k into multiple IRA’s immediately, or do I have to rollover to one IRA and then split that IRA into multiples? Thanks for your help!2002-03-14 14:09, By: bpngo, IP: [127.0.0.1]
L2: RE: 401k RolloverTypically, 401(k) plan administrators only want to cut one check; therefore, it would not suprise me if they say one check to the destination of your choice; then you can splinter that rollover IRA into as many new IRAs as you like. L2: 401k RolloverYou should inquire of your plan administrator. They can tell you up front if their plan rules allow you to do a partial rollover. This might help if you have a particular desire to keep some money in your present plan. For example, in my case, to do SEPP payments I will be doing a partial rollover to an IRA of an amount necessary to fund the SEPPs, but leaving the balance in my 401(a) because I can get access to some American Funds without the loads, and also to an unbelievably low-cost broad index fund. I checked with the plan advisors and they assured me that the plan would allow me to do a partial rollover. Yours might too. 2002-06-19 22:03, By: dougec, IP: [127.0.0.1]
