Are your tables up to date

L1: Are your tables up to dateThe posts that follow were a series of emails that I received following a post in our guestbook. Because I thought it would be of general interest, I have reposted it to the Discussion area. The name and email address of the original poster have been removed.Original Post to the Guestbookdo the tables used in 2002 reflect the changes in regulations effective in year 2002 for required minimum distribution . there are differences in comparing your computations vs another leading firm. they said 72t.net possibly has not upgraded the site to reflect the mandatory use of the new regulation s for the year 2002 distributionResponse #1We have had our tables changed since February 2001. Make sure that if you are looking at the ‘Minimum Distribution Factors’ page that you look at the right column as we list both the new and the old factors. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.Example: Age 70, Old=16.0 & New=26.2Replymy facts are: 72t computationowner 53spouse beneficiary 55ira value-613,690joint life expectancyi appreciate your calculation.thanks again, Response#2I can see why you are confused.1) There are no minimum distributions for someone who is age 55. Minimum distributions start at age 70.5 (or later).2) Distributions under Section 72(t) or 72(q) really have nothing to do with Required Minimum Distributions.3) The tax act passed back in January had no impact on distributions under IRC Section 72(t) or IRC Section 72(q) – the changes only apply to Required Minimum Distributions. 4) The MIDB table that is now used for Minimum Distributions has a pre-determined 10 year age spread. If you plan on using a pre-set age difference, I would strongly suggest that you also get competent legal assistance and apply for your own PLR.5) The only reason to use joint calculations for 72(t) or 72(q) is to reduce the payment distributed to you – that’s it – it accomplishes nothing else. There are several other methods that work much better than joint calculations.Gfw2002-01-10 17:29, By: Gfw, IP: [127.0.0.1]
