2002-62

L1: 2002-62I recently found out about the one-time change to RMD calculation method in time to do it beginning in 2007. I would like to go back and do it for 2006 as well, but would need to request a waiver from IRS for a valid rolllover contribution of greater than 60 days. What is the likelyhood that I could get such a waiver request approved, preferably in time to do my taxes by April 15, 2007? 2007-02-26 20:56, By: jonesse, IP: [66.174.93.99]
L2: 2002-62Hello Jonesse:
Unfortunately, I must advise you to not waste your time or money. The 60 day waivers are granted when errors or other usual events occur when what actually happened is clearly contrary to the taxpayer”s intent. They are generally not granted when a taxpayer changes their mind. Furhtermore, these waivers are expensive, up to several thousand dollars depending on the amount of the waiver requested. Lastly, they take anywhere from 3 to 12 months to obtain.
