L1: Life Expectancy tableHi:I will be 51later this month (Jan) and plan on starting a SEPP thru Vanguard next month (Feb) taking out monthly payments. I used your web site’s calculation Amortization methodand it reflected my Single Life Expectancy at 33.3 years. I found this same figureinIRS pub 590 IRA under Life Expectancy Tables. Is the IRS pub 590 LE table the correct one to useas it matched your web site’s LE figure?ThanksDave2010-01-19 20:48, By: Dave, IP: []
L2: Life Expectancy table33.3 is the magic number for you – you can use the IRS tables or our calculators.2010-01-19 21:22, By: Gfw, IP: []

L3: Life Expectancy tableDave,You can get a much larger dollar distribution per dollar of account balance if you use one of the fixed dollar methods. You could then change to the MD method in a later year if you want to reduce your distribution. But if you start with the MD method, you are stuck with it and it’s unpredictable annual distribution results. In addition, with a fixed dollar method you can partition your IRA into the amounts you need for your plan and create another IRA to be left out of your plan with the excess balance you do not need at this time. That other IRA can be used for emergency needs or to start a second SEPP at some later date. This gives you alot more flexibility over the term of your plan.2010-01-19 22:03, By: Alan S., IP: []

L4: Life Expectancy tableRegardless of method used, 33.3 is the right factor – based on your age of 51, the factor of 33.2 is used in the amortization, annuirty and minimum distributions methods. 2010-01-19 22:33, By: Gfw, IP: []

L5: Life Expectancy tableThere may be a typo in Gordon’s last reply. I think he meant to say 33.3 in both parts of his last reply, but he can clarify. His calculator results for age 51yields 33.3KEN2010-01-20 16:47, By: Ken, IP: []
